June 1st

Installed top hat stiffeners and glassed the forward one.  Made a mold for the air duct that will install on the baggage bay ceiling, to provide the inlet air for the two eyeball vents in the overhead panel and laid it up.  Finished fabricating the overhead panel and cut out the holes for the headset panel, eyeball vents and external lighting switches.  Covered the panel with carbon fiber vinyl and installed components...

June 2nd

Pulled the upper baggage area air duct out of the mold and trimmed.  Very nice, low profile duct.  Fitted duct to the rear top hat stiffener.  Formed and installed the fuel gage and fuel tank vents into the top of the fuselage.  Secured and aligned the light switches in the overhead panel and installed wiring pigtails for the power side of the switch.  Permanently mounted the eyeball vents.  Installed phone and mic jacks into the overhead tray and installed the placards, then installed the tray into the panel.  Fastened the vent tubes to their respective vents and reduxed the fresh air vent duct in place.  Marked the tail fin for the NACA vent cutout and trimmed the rear bulkhead...

June 3rd

Fabricated and laid up transition piece of air duct for fresh air vents.  Molded more duct work for connecting to the rear NACA vent. Secured fuel gage vent tube to upper fuselage...

June 4th

Broke out duct from mold and trimmed, then cut and fitted to lower fuselage.  Cut vertical fin and installed NACA vent.  Laid out rear duct work to be fitted to vent intake when upper fuselage is bonded to lower fuselage.  Checked fit of upper fuselage to insure proper layout of duct work...

June 5th

Installed front, lower vent duct and fitted upper fuselage to check alignment.  Started finishing out fresh air NACA vent and laid out access hatches for cutting.  Fabricated door latch parts and glass layup parts.  Assembled door latches.  Laid up moldings for securing upper panel to fuselage...

Finished upper panel mounting brackets and installed same.  Installed rear extension of the fresh air duct.  Broke out port and starboard door mechanism covers.  Installed port and starboard door mechanisms.  Installed blind nuts in upper panel support and installed overhead panel...

Installed locking mechanism and guides to both doors.  Installed remaining placards to overhead panel.  Made up complete wiring harness for the overhead panel and installed.  Finished out rear top hat stiffener...

Finished inner fiberglass supports for the modified belly access cover.  Laid up supports for the mod 66 that will reposition the door gas struts  Finished trimming door latch cover plates...

Trimmed inner fiberglass supports for the modified belly access cover and installed plate nuts.  Laid up bottoms of foot well floors.  Laid up reinforcements to front of cockpit module to firewall.  Cut firewall to accommodate landing gear mount, trimmed to proper size and laid up fiberglass reinforcement, outer firewall to inside of cockpit module...

June 12th

Bonded in rudder pedal stiffeners.  Trimmed footwell floors and installed plate nuts, then laid up floors in footwells.  Bonded ball lugs to door stiffeners, then bonded assembly to door frame, using flox and two plies BID and applied peel ply.  Installed rudder cable pulleys...

June 13th

Installed attachment balls to door lugs.  Cleared holes in footwell floors and installed rudder pedals.  Made up linkage for rudder cables and cut and installed cables and return springs.  Designed and fabricated a pulley/cable safety that will, not only keep the cable from jumping off of the pulley, but, when bonded to the fuselage, will also support the pulley through bolt, stiffening it, substantially.  Temporarily installed system and checked operation.  Works like a charm.  Cut the last three access holes and made up the covers...

Opened flanges in remaining access holes.  Did final sanding on stabilators and trim tabs.  They are ready for the paint shop...

Final sanded ailerons and brought flying surfaces to paint shop.  We pick colors in the morning...

June 17th

Started filling flanges on remaining access holes.  Did initial trimming and fitting of doors and windscreen.  Final fitting will take place when top fuselage is bonded in place...  Met with paint guy and picked colors.  Control surfaces should be painted next week...

June 25th

Ran tail strobe and trim tab wiring and strapped in place.  Fitted plate nuts to remaining three access holes and riveted in place.  Temporarily fitted top fuselage, stern post, fin cap and rudder to lower fuselage, in order to run rudder cables.  Once aligned, bonded cable guides in place.  Trimmed baggage bay bulkhead to fit.  The low profile fresh air duct fits well, in the bulkhead top...

June 26th

Cut out rough blank for firewall mod.  Did final adjustment to cable pulleys.  Picked up two 2" drain caps to use as return vents, to be used to allow air out of the cockpit and into the rear of the fuselage, where it will vent to the atmosphere.  Cleaned them up and floxed them into place in the "D" panel, in the rear baggage bay bulkhead.  Cleaned up nylon tubes, used as cable guidesBuilt up floor of aft fuselage for tail tie down ring.  Welded eye bolt and washer and primed with zinc chromate.  Scuff sanded inside of upper fuselage...

Bonded flap bearings into their bushings.  Prepared and laid up the flap actuator hard point, in the lower fuselage.  Installed tail tie down eye.  Started sanding the area of the cockpit module where the main gear legs will be installed...

Started filling around the tail NACA vent and smoothing it out...

Fitted modified firewall and baggage compartment access covers, then laid up BID to both sides of each.  Did rough in sanding on fresh air NACA vent.  Installed fuel filler.  Made up door handles and coated with epoxy...
