May 1st

After consulting with others, who had the same hose routing problem, I removed the water pump housing and heated the offending tubes and twisted them into the proper positions.  Everything seems to be in the right position, now.  Finished installing the mount ring.  Added ground leads to the block to ensure that the magnetos were grounded...

May 4th

Firewall forward kit arrived, today.  Once the parts were inventoried, I painted the engine mount.  When dry I installed it to the engine, then installed the engine to the airframe and set angle of incidence.  Installed the exhaust system...

Fabricated oil tank mount.  Insulated starboard footwell Installed oil tank.  Fabricated throttle quadrant and installed throttle and choke cables.  Painted and installed brake/throttle quadrant coverInstalled tachometer in panel...  Pictures, on bottom line, show "Baby Blue" featured in a "car" show on Saturday May 7th...

May 8th

Mary worked on finishing the insulating of the footwells and firewall, while I fabricated the oil cooler/radiator duct, then installed the oil cooler and radiator.  I then did the initial fitting of the unit to the fuselage and hooked up the throttle cables to the carbs and did initial adjustments...

May 9th

More work on the cooler duct installation.  Installed and hooked up the electric fuel pump.  Installed fuel hose to the engine and then to carbs.  Installed oil pump feed line and the water pump to radiator hose.

Fabricated a brass tube that holds the water temp sensor and installed it into the return hose.  Finished up the fuel system installation.  Did some work on the engine electrical system...

Finished up the oil line installation.  Installed heat shield tube covering on pertinent oil and water hoses.  Started working with the cowl...

Completed the engine wiring and penetrated the firewall.  Hooked up MAP vacuum line to manifold and routed it into the cockpit.  Made up wiring harness behind instrument panel...

Installed the coolant recovery system, then fabricated a catch tank for the oil tank vent and installed same...

Cut openings for the air intake and additional cooling vent, fabricated duct work, applied mold release and laid up BID and resin as per instructions...

Cut openings for the oil/water hatch covers, then prepped cowl and laid up 4 layers of BID to form flanges.  Once hardened, I marked and cut out the flanges...

Finished fitting and installing oil/water hatch covers, including latches.  Cut and installed air box seals in the upper cowl.  Opened cowl gill vents, installed anchor nuts that fasten cowl halves together.  Fitted assembled cowl to the fuselage and drilled pilot holes, then clecoed the cowl in place...

Finished fitting the cowl.  Opened exit hole in the lower cowl, for exhaust pipe.  Installed pipe...

Filled and sanded the cowl, then filled and sanded some more.  They are now ready for the paint shop...
